One person, a lot of cats
Mr & Mrs Kitty Kat is a volunteer-run cat rescue in northwest Houston, near Jersey Village. It started the way most small rescues do — one person who could not walk past a cat that needed help, and then could not walk past the next one either.
Today that means every cat we have living in one house, all of them spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested, and microchipped at her own expense. None of them are waiting for care. They are waiting for somebody to pick them.
How adoption works
- 01
Apply online
Ten minutes, and it is free. We ask about your home, your other pets, and your vet — not to be nosy, but because matching the right cat to the right house is most of this job.
- 02
We read it and reply
Every application gets an answer either way, usually within two days. If something in it worries us, we will tell you what and why rather than going quiet.
- 03
Meet the cat
At a PetSmart or Petco near Jersey Village. Bring anyone who lives with you. If it is not a match, that is a completely fine outcome and we will help you find one that is.
- 04
Sign and go home
You sign the adoption contract, pay the fee, and take them home the same day with their records and microchip paperwork.
What the fee covers
Adoption fees run $75 to $150 depending on age, and more for purebred cats. That does not cover our costs and is not meant to — the veterinary care each cat receives runs $140 to $265. The difference is covered by donations, which is why we ask for them.
- Spay or neuter surgery
- Age-appropriate vaccinations
- Rabies vaccination
- FeLV / FIV testing
- Deworming
- Flea prevention
- Registered microchip
- Any medical care while with us
Senior cats usually have a reduced fee. Bonded pairs go home together for a single fee — separating cats who have never been apart is hard on both of them.
Adoption contract terms
Required by Texas law
Sterilization of this animal is required under Chapter 828, Texas Health and Safety Code. A violation of that chapter is a criminal offense punishable as a Class C misdemeanor.
Nearly every cat we adopt out is already sterilized before they leave. Where a kitten is too young for surgery, the adopter signs a sterilization agreement: the surgery must be completed within 30 days of the kitten reaching six months old for a female, or eight months for a male. For cats in our care, we cover the cost.
Return policy. If an adoption does not work out, at any point in the cat's life, the cat comes back to us. Not to a shelter, not to Craigslist. This is not a threat — it is a promise, and it applies ten years from now.
Indoor only. Our cats are adopted as indoor pets. Indoor cats live roughly three times longer.
No declawing. Declawing is amputation of the last bone of each toe. We will not adopt to a home that intends to do it.
Courtesy listings. Some cats on this site are listed for their owners while we help rehome them. Those listings are clearly marked, and each one carries this notice, which is repeated in the contract: “This cat lives with their current owner, not with us. Their health, vaccination, and behavior information came from that owner and the records they gave us. Mr & Mrs Kitty Kat has not examined this cat and makes no warranty as to their health or temperament.”
